Time Talents Treasures

“But just as you excel in everything --- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us --- see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” - 2 Corinthians 8:7

If you take a look around FPC, it is easy to see the Lord’s hand at work. God is expanding His kingdom through His church. More and more people are being equipped to do the work of ministry (Eph 4:12-13) and are living it out daily. Praise be to God!

Our church mission statement is a simple and beautiful reminder: “To Be Disciples. To Make Disciples.” Every member knows how important it is to live out this vision. And we should all know by now what it means to be a disciple of Jesus...someone who is following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and living and loving like Jesus (Mark 1:17).

The EMC is a time to reflect and ask yourself some questions that every disciple ought to ask:

1. Does my life reflect that I really am following Jesus?

2. If so, then how am I being changed by Jesus?

3. In what ways am I living and loving like Jesus?

Think about how you spend your time, how you use your talents, and how you leverage your finances for the sake of the gospel. Does it look anything like how Jesus would do it? The Bible says that fully trained students will become like their teacher (Luke 6:40) and that “Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6). Jesus was the most giving person to ever live. If we are following Jesus, then it is only natural that we will become more of a giver. Giving is a response to grace. We are recipients of an indescribable gift! This should be our motivation for giving. We give (of our time, talents, and treasure) because He first gave to us. The Macedonian church that Paul was referring to in 2 Corinthians 8 was a model for generosity to the other churches Paul was shepherding. Their giving was fueled by their overflowing joy in God. As you ponder your own giving over the coming weeks, our hope and prayer is that God will give you the desire to "excel in everything" and, like the Macedonians, to "excel in this grace of giving."

Please prayerfully consider how you will commit your time and talents to the Lord for 2027.
